Sneak Peak of New Book Co-Authored by Doug Buffone at #NSCC in Chicago
On April 20, 2015 it was a very sad day in Chicago and for football fans throughout the country. One of Chicago’s own passed away too soon at the age of 70.
Doug Buffone was a tough, blue collar style player possessing the passion and skills to play 14 years in the NFL for the Chicago Bears organization. If he didn’t play next to Hall of Famer Dick Butkus he probably would have gained more notoriety and special accolades but I’ve been told that wasn’t what drove him to play the game. He just loved to play football, Chicago Bears football.
After he retired he became a fixture in Chicago sports, including hosting various popular TV and radio shows. He was also an entrepreneur and part owner of several Chicago businesses. Many would say he was loyal to his family, football and his friends of which he had many.
Doug will be missed by many including good friends Chet Coppock and Larry Wolfe. Chet, an Emmy award-winning broadcaster and author from Chicago, had just recently finished co-authoring a book with Doug called: Doug Buffone Monster of the Midway before Doug passed away. The book’s official release date is tentatively scheduled for mid-September, 2015.
However, thanks to Chet and Larry, Triumph Books will make a number of printed books available for Chet to sign and sell at the up-coming National Sports Collectors Convention, July 29th thru Aug 2nd, at the Donald E Stephens Convention Center, in Rosemont, IL.
In addition, they have created a Doug Buffone tribute signing board (see above) which will be placed within their exhibitor’s booth. Chicago sports fans are urged to come down and add their signature to the many fans who knew and loved Doug. Chet and Larry are looking to collect a total of 200,000 signatures secured from the #National and other events around Chicago, including the Chicago Bears up-coming training camp.
Approximately 45,000 sports fans and collectors will converge on the Stephen’s Convention Center throughout the five (5) day event. Chet, Larry, Dana Buffone and their children will be on-site, set up in an exhibitors booth adjacent to the AmazonSports.com Main Stage throughout the event.
